WINDOWS 7 Cookbook- How to check TPM compatibility in your device

Windows 7 has inbuilt encryption feature called BitLocker to encrypt your entire hard drive. If available, BitLocker seals the symmetric encryption key in a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.2 chip (available in some newer computers).
Few TPM equipped computers have TPM chip disabled in the BIOS. If you want to use this feature you must enable this from BIOS. After you enable the TPM chip, BitLocker performs the TPM initialization automatically.
However, to check whether your computer has TPM chip, you can follow the below instruction:

  • From Start menu click on Run
  • Type MMC and click on OK
  • In the MMC console windows – Click on File menu –> Add/Remove snap in..
  • From Available snap-in select TPM Management and click on Add button
  • Select local computer option and click on OK
  • Click OK to close the dialog box
  • Click on TPM Management on Local Computer
  • You will see the detail configuration if your device supports TPM
